Changuleh border in Mehran to be reopened: local official

TEHRAN- Governor of western province of Ilam said on Thursday that Changuleh border point located between Ilam and Wasit Province in eastern Iraq will be reopened, the Mehr news agency reported.
Mohammadreza Morvarid, who was speaking with Wasit’s governor, said that efforts are being put to reopen Changuleh border point because many Iranian pilgrims use Mehran border to travel to Iraq to observe Arbaeen ritual.Iraqi officials have put forward the idea and Iran interior minister will hold meetings with Ilam’s officials this week to review the proposal, Morvarid added.
He also said that custom officials of Ilam will travel to Wasit next week to check the border point.
“Fortunately, we have had good meetings with Wasit’s governor and we hope to solve the problems in Mehran border”, he added.
Mehran border is of great importance to pilgrims and businessmen because it is nearest and safeties route to the Holy sites in Iraq, he concluded.
Arbaeen is a Shia Muslim religious observance that occurs forty days after the Day of Ashura (this year Dec 2) when Imam Hussein (AS) and his 72 companions were unjustly martyred.
